I have attached 1/2" furring strips to my basement wall to allow for drywall.?

im a builder in the uk ...im sure you have NOT fitted firring strips ...firring strips are pieces of wood that are thicker one end from the other ..here they are normally 3"reducing to nothing ..they are used to create a fall on a flat roof ...we all so do dry lining over here but would never use anything smaller than 2X1 lathe ..what you have will not hold
