Amplifier With Distortion?

hi i have a fender starcaster beginner kit. it has a amplifier that says it has distortion. it has a treble and b knob, it also has a Overdrive on. i tried the OD on but i don't know how to get it to sound distorted, please help me i am a begginer, and i want it to sound heavier
